My Goal
As will probably be evident as you continue reading, I have never written a blog before.
I also haven't really written anything for fun since Creative Writing 101 in college.
But when I had more time than I knew what to do with in recovery, I thought writing about my experiences and what I have learned could be a fun way to pass the time and hopefully help someone who may be doing what I did when I first got my diagnosis: Googling "I have Chiari malformation, now what."
I was lucky going into my diagnosis that I had a rough idea of what lay ahead from what little I learned about my condition in medical school. I have also been incredibly lucky to have the recovery I am having so far, so I want to use my energy towards something that feels a little more productive than another puzzle (not that I don't love a good puzzle).
I want to share what has worked for me, what hasn't, and what my experiences with Chiari I and syringomyelia have been like, before and after surgery, in hopes of creating a source of support for people who are in similar situations.
You are not alone. We are going to keep figuring this out together!
